Fun at horse therapy

He loves riding :)

Picture Day

took the kids to a little market that turned out to really be a joke. No one was there but the people working it. But, we took birthday pictures anyway.
At least we found some cute and friendly animals.

Mt. Nebo

Sahara has been asking to go hiking for weeks. Since we went to the Brass in the Clouds last night and it was chilly on the mountain, I figured it would be a perfect day today.
Rim Trail starts behind the visitor's center. Great area for picnics. Lake Dardanelle behind the kids.

This is where the band played the night before. Sunset Point.
Sahara and Brittany with their toga pose.
We decided to take the Rim Trail, but it breaks off and you have to take Summit Trail half way and then get back on Rim. Somehow we got mixed up and took Summit all the way back around and ended up at cabins. That was fine with me because the trail was supposed to be easy/moderate and it was kicking my butt. Not to mention I set out shoes for Canyon to put on but he chose to put on crocs instead and we didn't realize that until we got there. Crocs are not good hiking footwear for sure.
This was the easy part.
Found a frog!
It rained all day Friday but since we were in a drought before then, no water under the bridge.
Ohhhh. More critters. This walking stick was on the door to the visitors center.
Panoramic Brittany took.

Getting ready for hang gliders and parachute jumpers at Sunrise Point.

First attempt was a fail.
There he goes!

Brass in the Clouds

Nothing going on today so we headed up Nebo Mountain to watch some of the brass band from Tech in the 9th annual Brass in the Clouds. (actually not a cloud in the sky)
They set up on the cliff that faces west so it's a pretty sunset view.
Tech photographer in the sunset.

This little girl was cute.  Her grandma wouldn't let her go an arms length away because of the cliff so she did the big pout.

As soon as the sun disappeared, it got really chilly.  At least there were only 2 pieces left to play and it would be over.  A lot of people didn't think of the weather being 30 degrees cooler up there and were wearing tank tops and shorts.  Glad we took jackets in case.

TOGA TOGA TOGA

They're off to their first college party!!  It was held at a country club and they had to pre buy tickets to get in, so it sounded a little safer then a typical party.
Got home a little before 2 am. Said it was fun but most the people were half naked.
They didn't want to go dressed up, but luckily I was able to convince them to do it anyway!

September Art Walk

We went to the Art Walk tonight. It was just the 3 of us this time. Someone made this owl in the alley between stores. The alley is a really unique place and it looks like maybe someone is finally going to do something with it. It would make a great little city park or community garden.
More then the art, we go for the free food. No need for dinner tonight. We sampled cheese, bread, crackers, dip, cookies, brownies, cake, and more (like wine for mom). Hard to believe next Art Walk will be freezing cold. (December)
We watched the band warm up, but they took forever so we finally headed out.
Of course we had to stop to see the antique fire truck on the way out.

Pope County Fair

Booty shot!!
Sahara and Brittany took Canyon to the county fair.  Sahara said that after this photo was taken, the mama cow gave Canyon sugar from one side of his face to the other. Yuck!
They rode a few rides.
He won a little Nemo fish at the balloon pop game. Sahara said he dominated that game.
He wanted to stay for the motorcycle show where they ride super fast in the small round cage, but it was a school night so they had to call it a night.

Still over 100 degrees

We got a splash pad put in this summer. We never went because it was always crowded and not really big. But after school today Sahara and Brittany took Canyon. It wasn't planned so he just got wet and cooled down in his clothes.
There are other things beside the fire hydrant. I guess that was his favorite. And it looks like the place was all his!!

Neon Nights

First dance of the year known as 5th quarter after the football game (which of course Apaches won!) was Neon Nights.
Canyon headed to the game with the glow sticks and bracelets we forgot to use on the 4th of July and his ticket.
I LOVE how Canyon is keeping up with the other kids.
(white shorts)

And of course, as he had at all the dances he's been too, he received a prize for most spirit.
It included this shirt along with a bag a candy and more glow sticks.
Sahara said he and another boy were 'twerking' but she had to stop them because that's not allowed at school (as it should not be allowed anywhere!) funny thing is, he's been doing that for years way before we even knew it existed or had a name. We just called it 'Canyon's booty shake'.
