Last soccer night

There is one more soccer game with a big end of season game, but we will not be here for it.  So, since Canyon will miss the photographer, his picture will have to be one from the phone.

His volunteer, Bud, made sure Canyon got his metal too.

What a goofball.

Lots of kids and volunteers were not here tonight for some reason.  Only 20 or so players when there were 50 or so who signed up, but they took a group picture anyway. Some of the kids pictured are also volunteers and not players.

It was a very wet and rainy season.  So much rain that the whole season was pushed 6 weeks further into the year.  I don't really think Canyon liked soccer as much as basketball and baseball.  Sahara figured it was because it was a free-for-all.  It's not set up where everyone gets their turn one at a time.  You either go for the ball or hang back.  He usually went for the ball, but the other kids are faster and the ball keeps taking off in the other direction and that was frustrating for him.  We might give it another year, but we might nix this sport.

He's in the Army now...

Jared went to Drills this weekend just a mile or two from our house.

I'm proud of him and heartbroken at the same time. He looks so nice in his ACU!

Just one weekend away and the Army has changed him.  Let's see how long this lasts but in his fatigues anyway, he is more polite and gentleman-like.  I like :)

He met up with us at Belk and he was on the phone with his dad.  I couldn't wait for him to be finished with the call; I had to hug his neck. My eyes were teary but I don't think he noticed.  Then we went to Taco Bell for lunch.  He got us our first Military discount there (without even asking for it)!

After more shopping we headed home and he went to his brother's to get a watch fixed.  Then back to the house and he crashed out holding Sahara's hand. Awww.

Workin' at the Car Wash

Canyon's class put on a car wash at Burger King to raise money for Special Olympic bowling for next year.  Canyon's shift was 12-2 but I had Sahara take him there at 11:30.  Good thing because storms swooped in quickly and it had to be shutdown 45 minutes later. In that 45 minutes he washed 6-7 cars, his favorite was this Camero.

I was at a work luncheon and slid out of there at 12:15 to head to the car wash, but Sahara called me on the way there to tell me they closed shop.  They made just under $200 which wasn't too bad considering the weather.  Another one is planned for the weekend of 64 Galore.

Sad news at the barn

Canyon went to hippo therapy today but didn't ride because 'the horses were on vacation'. Later on Facebook we saw this:

He was blind we knew but apparently had cancer. Canyon rode Dan a lot.

RIP Dan

First summer project... Done.

Canyon's last day of school was Friday, Sahara has been out for nearly a month, and I have 3 days left (gag), but Canyon's collection of metals has grown to where the 4 tiny hooks I had for them to hang on just wasn't going to cut it anymore.
And even though I should be spending the day cleaning in the hide-a-way places the termite guy is bound to look at tomorrow when he comes for his yearly inspection, I decided it's time for the first summer project.

This is the tangled mess they had become.  He is so proud of his medals and I wanted him to be able to show that.

Originally I had wanted to get a strip of peg board with only 1, 2 or 3 rows of holes. Apparently you have to order that online and pay 5 times the amount for such an item then just getting a sheet of pegboard and cutting it into strips.  That sounded like work and I wanted this to be an easy fix.

The Hog flag was taken off the wall and made into a curtain, it's pretty shear and will be too bright for sleeping in this summer, but I have black fabric and will line it later.

Without the pegboard option available, I just got a strip of adjustable shelving track and a bunch of S hooks.

He loves it and there is plenty of room to add more.

We made the switch

About 3 months ago I bought our last jug of cow's milk. We're an almond milk drinking family now.
I was down to only buying a 1/2 gallon of white and chocolate milk weekly and still pouring out past due date milk. We just aren't big milk drinkers. Occasionally a bowl of cereal, box of macaroni, or milk shake...all which can be make with almond milk and it's self life is much longer. And it's much healthier.

Kidnapped!!

Sahara, Jared, and Brittany checked Canyon out of school to take him to DQ for lunch.

Last day for him is Friday!

Baseball

Photos are in. Considering that Canyon had a really poopy attitude this morning and did not want his photo taken, it turned out pretty good.
I'm a year behind getting his photos framed and on the sports wall. I need to get on it.

Memorial Day game

We didn't get to go to the game on Saturday because we were at Special Olympics, but they had a special Memorial Day game and BBQ.

Because only half the players were here, they combined the big team and the little team and played 3 innings each instead of the usual 2.  Canyon was catcher for the first 2 innings.

First up to bat.

Running in to home.

Running to home an second time.

After the game was a BBQ  Canyon munching down on a hot dog.

More of the group trying to stay shaded.

One more game and then the big trophy game :)

Travelers -vs- Missions

We went to the annual Travelers game with Canyons baseball team Sunday afternoon.
As soon as we get there it's hamburgers and hot dogs at the reserved pavilion.

Then we headed to our seat. Luckily our row was in the shade.

The game was long and Canyon was bored. I was on Facebook and saw a picture similar the the scoreboard below that his teacher posted.... Yep she was there too just 2 sections away. Canyon went over to say HI and get a hug.

Then we stood and sang for the 7th inning stretch.

Looooooooong winded!!!
The Travs won!  Then the kids ran the bases. Jared went with Canyon and the line was very long.

After we hit the gift shop where Canyon bought a mini bat.

We had 45 minutes to wait until the Riverfest firework show. Riverfest is a big Little Rock annual event every Memorial weekend with bands, rides, and food. We have never been because it's so expensive. But having a seat at the ball park is the best place to be to watch te fireworks across the river.

And the finale....
