The 'pod'

Canyon loves listening to music and the 'siren' app on the the iPod. I wish he'd play games or read (listen) to stories. He also LOVES FaceTime :)

Sahara and her health

For the last 18 days we have been tracking Sahara's health issues. Thankfully her back is better. But track at school might be over with since she has missed 3 weeks. But she has had 6 classic migraines, 2 big headaches, 3 mornings of vomiting (1 causing her to stay home) and this is while on migraine and nausea medicine. Next...she will be scheduled for an MRI pending insurance approval. :/

Jr High Dance

Canyon had a blast tonight. He even won Most Spirited Dancer ($5) He said, "Yes! I did it" and went running up to get his prize. Sahara said he was so dramatic about it, it was like he had won an Oscar.  He danced with a lot of Girls too :)

The theme was candyland.

The King....the principal :)

We were thinking of dressing Canyon as a Sugar Daddy, but thought for Jr. High, he might get kicked out...or suspended!
(This kid won costume tho)

Dancing with his sis.

The winners. For Costume, Elegance, and Spirit.

And who might this girl be???  Canyon says her name is Jessica. She danced with him several times.  But Canyon would get shy and embarrassed and run away!

Dr. Pepper break.

Here Canyon is dancing by himself but then gets mobbed by a gaggle of girls.

National DS Day !

Wear LOTS OF SOCKS!
Down Syndrome International invites everyone across the world to wear LOTS OF SOCKS on 21 March 2013 to raise awareness on World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD).

We want to get people talking about WDSD on 21 March, and we can do this if we all wear socks…BUT NOT JUST ANY SOCKS…brightly coloured socks, mismatched socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock…maybe even 3 socks (or EXTRA socks) for 3 chromosomes. Or if you don’t normally wear socks then wear them. Just so long as they are socks which are on display and people will ask you about.
AND WHY STOP AT SOCKS? Wear brightly coloured clothing if you like, say if it’s too hot for socks. The choice is yours, but we ask you to join us in wearing something which will help tell the world about WDSD.
It is easy to do, so whether you are at home, nursery, school, university, work, play, travel, holiday or anywhere, join in!
On 21 March 2013, wear LOTS OF SOCKS and invite all your friends, family and colleagues to do the same.

My Druggie

Sahara had to visit the doctor 2 weeks ago for migraines. Today she was back again for back pain that has lasted 10 days. She is on so much medicine now I had to buy an AM/PM pill container. 4 pills in the morning and 5 at night. She says she feels like an old person :)

She goes back again in 2 more weeks to review how everything has been going.

Polar Bear Plunge

We are only crazy enough to go and watch.  Jared really wants to participate next year and was bummed he didn't this year.  He will have to find sponsors because it's $50 to be this crazy!

There is also a costume contest.

This couple dressed in their wedding attire.

The Russellville Police Dept.

We think this group were shower luffas (and the guy's shirt 'bar of soap')

This poor guy jumped in and lost his wedding ring.  So he stayed in extra long and they stopped the other plungers and he rooted around and FOUND IT!  I figured a few people would go help him if he didn't, me included, but I'm glad I didn't have to do that.  And so glad he found it!!!

It was a much bigger turn out this year and they made nearly tripple the amount!

Time Out For Tech

Time Out for Tech
Somewhere in here....Sahara sits.
Sahara skipped school today to have a college day at Tech...where she most probably- 99.9% will be going in the fall.  Thousands showed up from states away. She had a great time and was full of stories when I got off work.  I think she is really getting excited.  Her friend Kendall (whom she roomed with at Sea Camp) changed from what she wanted to go into (nursing) to psychology like Sahara.  So they both seem really excited about maybe getting some classes together. Good for Sahara because Kendall is REALLY smart. After the tour and collecting a ton of paperwork, Jared met up with the girls and Kendall's mom and they all went out for lunch.  The girls are planning a family day at the park so her brother and Canyon can play together.  He is Canyon's age and home-schooled.  He is Autistic and wasn't doing well in school.  Maybe the 2 of them will be buddies :)

Didn't have high hopes for this appointment...

But he did it!!

Canyon had to have 2 teeth pulled.  His permanent teeth grew in behind his baby teeth about 3 years ago.  But the babies never fell out.  They hardly even got loose.  I was told over and over again by his dentist that it was not a problem and whenever they are ready to come out, the new ones will float right in their place.  Problem is...the babies next to the babies not wanting to fall out are getting loose now and if they fall out first, the prems will float over and into the wrong place.  So, it was time to get rid of those babies that just wanted to live there forever!

Before the appointment.

They took him back without me.  15 minutes later they came to get me and said he did awesome.  There he was, laying on the table/chair with gauze sticking out of his mouth and an oxygen mask on his nose.  Nice and comfy.  No fussing, no tears.
I said it was time to go and he sat up and pulled the gauze from his mouth and was happy.  It was a shock to me.
However in the car, he wouldn't let me take a picture or talk to me for over an hour.  We had a lot of errands to run (most of which he just waited in the car for me).  We got a milk shake for him, but he refused it.

Here are his teeth for the Fairy tonight :)

As soon as we got home, he downed the shake in 2 minutes!  After a rest and a movie at home, Jared came over with french fries and he was all happy again.  So he let me take a picture of his holes.

Visitors

Paint

and French Fry

from down the road have come to visit.  They may be here a night (depending how their night goes) or a month.  They ran out of hay in their home field so they are here to eat ours.

They aren't digging being tied up, but they can escape easily in the many holes we have in our fence.  A tree fell on one part of it and the 12 foot fence is completely off of it.

French Fry found an escape before his owner even got back down the road after leaving him here.

They are very friendly and sociable.  French Fry can be ridden on, or sat on I should say because he wont actually walk when someone is on his back.

Little house on the prarie no more??

Most probably so :(
Just found out all the field behind my house has been sold....to the group who like to make small subdivisions.

It may be this Sping, or it may be a few years from now, but sooner or later we will be looking at the backs of other houses instead of our field view :(

Let your fingers do the walking...

Sahara submitted an art piece to a contest for the cover of the telephone book.  Last year, we never heard about what happened to her piece.  This year, she got in the book!

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were also from her school (out of 7 or 8 districts)

They had to be about something that reflects their area.  Sahara chose the clock at the Russellville Train Depot.  In color, it has a pink and orange sunset going behind the steal gray and black clock.
I'm just happy her's got in this year :)

Crab Fest - for Misty's Birthday

YUMMMMMMMMMY

Nana and Papa bought about 20 clusters of crab for my birthday since finding a restaurant nearby with crab is near impossible.

Sahara was ready to dig in, but didn't eat as much as I thought she would.

My first helping.  I went back for seconds... and thirds :)

This is the remains of 15 of the clusters.  We saved 5 for another time.

Time for cake.  Double fudge :)

Then a game of GOLF.  Canyon played this time and needed help, but also did really well!

This is what I got from Sahara, Canyon, and Jared.
It's so pretty!
