Sunday Funday

Pottsville Jr. High had their annual art show this weekend.

After walking into the cafeteria where all the art is displayed, I asked Canyon to take me to his art.  He walked me straight over to this and pointed.  I assume he had a lot of help with this.
The black had been cut out with a razor knife and glued on top of the sunset drawing.
He also showed me a tree.

Then we went to the tables with the paper mache.  I was just walking by and not really noticing but he stopped here with a look on his face.  I said, "oh, it's a firetruck, it's YOUR firetruck".  Silly nut didn't say anything, just stopped to stare at it til I noticed.

Then we ran into his art teacher and she took me to the food section.

No, this isn't meal deal #3, it's made out of toilet paper.

Mrs. Drake said he created this pretty much on his own.  Rolled and formed all the paper, chose the colors, got together and put up his supplies.  He worked really hard and did a fantastic job!
All of the layers of the hamburger come apart.  Each ingredient is it's own piece of art.

Here are some of the other food pieces.

Straight from the art show we headed to see Godzilla.
Jared and Sahara met us there.
The theater was pretty empty but people straggled in just before it started.  Pretty good flick :)

Mother's Day

Sahara took me out for brunch at IHOP. It was pretty crowded but we didn't have to wait too long. They were giving carnations to all the moms as they came in.
My card from Sahara, Canyon and Jared.
They got me an iTunes gift card and Vibram shoes.

I love my shoes!  However, I sprinted down the hall in them and heard and felt my calf muscle pop. Now I'm alternating ice and heat. It's been acting strange for a week. Kind of like the after feeling of a charliehorse. Now it doesn't want to flex at all.  But I still love my shoes!!
We also did a little shopping.
Best kids ever!!!

Finally Soccer!

We have waited 5 weeks for soccer to start.  Because of bad weather and muddy/flooded fields, soccer was pushed to May.  But tonight was the night!
First we had to get Canyon's t-shirt and jersey.  They didn't have adult sizes last week when we were supposed to pick them up.  Luckily tonight they had his size.  There were still a couple of bigger kids who don't have what they need.

Then volunteers were assigned to players.  Sahara and Jared were in Little Rock taking Jared's twin brother to the airport for Boot Camp, so Canyon was assigned Mr. Bud.

After warm up exercises, which were pretty interesting, (Canyon would do cross leg - toe touches while everyone else did jumping jacks), they played a game called 'gas pedal'.  Canyon paid attention and did pretty well.

But then he got silly and wanted to kick the ball far and hard causing Mr. Bud to chase after it.  While he was gone after another run-away ball, I eased Canyon over to a goal and showed him that into the goal is where you kick hard.
He LOVED it.

And he didn't seem to have a preferred kicking foot either.  Sahara and Jared showed up at this point which made Canyon happier and more motivated.

Next it was time to divide the kids and scrimmage.  Canyon got to kick off the game but first Mr. Bud pointed out the 'orange' team and the goal we needed to get to.

He really got into it.  Chasing that ball all over the field and not being afraid to get right in there and kick it.

After the scrimmage, the volunteers and the parents made a tunnel for the players to run through.
Not too bad.  He had fun even though this is a sport he really has no knowledge of.
Yay soccer!

A Field Of Angels

Thanks to a co-worker, who was at the game last Saturday, I got a few shots and video of the game.  Mr. Roys is on Yearbook, Facebook, and the school website staff.  He was there to capture the students I work with and some other students from our school.  He happened to recognized Canyon so he got some shots of him too and e-mailed them to me :)

Canyon gets a hit and heads to first base.  He is #19 this year.

In this video collage, Canyon is in the 5th picture and the last person running to 1st base.  A lot of Jared in the shots - the last pictures and videos (he helps with a bunch of the kids).

Little Spring Gardening

The front flower bed was looking pretty neglected. I didn't take before photos but it was covered in 6 inch tall grass. Luckily it was the 'soft' grass (whatever variety that is) and pulled out pretty easily. Then we added 3 bags of black mulch and bought 4 Tiny Invader Lily plants.
It's not much but looks a lot better then overgrown grass.

Trying again for Easter

So the wheels for the go-cart that Canyon got for Easter didn't work out after all.  That was a bummer.  They were a little spendy anyway so they went back to the store.  Sahara felt bad and got Canyon a kite.  It's pretty cool too.  A dragon.

It took a lot of coaxing to get him to participate, but he seemed to like it.
The second time he enjoyed it more.  Sorry about the background music.  It's Canyon's Kids Bop version music that he has playing all the time when he swings.  Which is all the time :)
